If you deal with binary data files this is a real time and sanity saver. I find it especially useful because I often use non-standard files so I need a special grammars. After the first grammar the second is easy to write. Developer very responsive. Highly recommended.

I had been needing a basic binary file editor, but this is much beyond that. I have only had a small amount of time to mess with it. In that time I installed the sample grammars from their web site and was able to parse the headers of a png file. This could be extremely useful if you have to deal with custom binary file formats. For a free app, this is well worth the download. Kudos to the author for making this tool available for free.

I cant believe this is free... this is a great product!! The "grammars" were a little confusing to intall. It looks like it is supposed to install grammars automatically, but I had to download them from the website manually. Still gave it 5 stars.
The thing that would put this over the top is HEX COMPARISON. I love the hex editor part but I get sad when I see that we can compare, yet not compare IN HEX. I would gladly pay for this feature (premium version?) because this is so...awesome. Anyone that doesnt need the above HAS to download this right now. Fast, free, easy binary editor/comparer (except hex... :( )
When I saw that this was free, I wasnt expecting much. But this was a total surprise - even paid hex editors Ive used in the past werent this good. This is the best hex editor Ive used on the Mac in terms of speed and simplicity. The grammar functionality is really interesting; I know Ill be spending time experimenting with that. Id like to see file comparison functionality, perhaps some CRC utilities, and a few other odds and ends, but this is definitely worth 5 stars as it is. As another reviewer said - I cant believe this is free.
I have been looking for a good hex editor on the Mac for a while now. This app goes far beyond my expectations and needs. I used this to map one of our companies propietary binary files, and I am amazed by the flexibility of this software. You have nothing to lose, grab it today.
Tutorial displays features that it doesn’t have
For some reason all the features are broken, and it’s just a hex viewer.
If you dont have much experience, the software is pretty much useless. Also, I caught the software trying to access the internet. This makes me really nervous, so I wont be using it anymore. Dont waste your money.
Instant disappointment
Only renders ASCII until you define a grammar. If you are spelunking into a completely unknown format and want to quickly see what a particular byte sequence is in decimal as you dig, you're outta luck. Given this rather egregious limitation I sincerely have no idea who the target audience for this application is even meant to be.
Needs maintenance, but super useful.
It's clearly not being updated well, but it's still super freakin' useful.

I spent a long day trying to parse a binary data file to write a custom I/O library, many hours counting bytes on a hex dump to reverse engineer the file layout. Found and bought this little gem and the problem was solved in about twenty minutes, coded up and working in a coupe of hours. The file type was even in the included grammers!! Haven't used many of its features yet but everything I have done has worked flawlessly. Glad to have this in my bag 'o tricks!
Massive Time Saver
I've used Hex Fiend for years and still a fan, but this tool wins hands down! Keep up the great work!
Did not work as shown in tutorials
Most of the features are missing. You can’t apply grammars and the tutorial directions on the website do not work. Dropdown menus are different and are missing the option to insert, which you need in order to apply/create a grammar.

When I saw that this was free, I wasn't expecting much. But this was a total surprise - even paid hex editors I've used in the past weren't this good.
